Jewelry isn’t just an accessory that amps up your outfit; it makes you feel confident, royal, voluptuous, and out of this world. Gone are the days when jewels were considered feminine and were primarily flaunted by women. Today, thankfully, this stereotypical mindset is rubbing off from society, and gender-neutral jewelry is setting a strong foothold.
So much so that even influential people like Kerry Washington are taking up initiatives to endorse such items in a bid to promote gender equality. In fact, she’s all set to launch her third jewelry collection in collaboration with the female-founded sustainable fine jewelry brand, Aurate. Join us as we spill the beans on this one!
Washington's new jewelry line
Actress, investor, philanthropist, and an Emmy award winner, Kerry Washington has always been a boss lady. And the best part is, her resume is still building!
In the coming holiday season, the multi-hyphenate is all set to come up with her new genderless jewelry line, in association with a female-founded sustainable jewelry brand named Aurate. The highlight of the items crafted by this brand is that every piece is made from 100% recycled gold, meaning you'll be investing in an item that’s filled with goodness. Now ain’t that just gorgeous?
The collection is called "be the lead," and it consists of five stunning jewelry pieces that are sustainably sourced and can be worn by every gender. In an exclusive chat with ELLE, Washington shared her views about this new collaboration and why the jewelry shouldn't be stereotyped. To get all the juice, don't forget to hop onto the next part of the post.
In conversation with Kerry...
When asked about her third collaboration with Aurate and her experience, Washington stated that being a celebrity, it's important to take partnerships very seriously. Life is too short of making bad decisions and not work with the right people; especially, when you get a chance to. The founders of Aurate - Sofi and Bouchra - are extremely talented and impressive women, she added. They know what they're doing, and they’re out to democratize jewelry for all gender types.
Washington feels proud to be a part of such a strong female-driven mission. She recalls that at first, the team decided to go with the name "leading ladies" for the collaboration’s collection, since it was inspired by some of the greatest women in Hollywood. But later, they decided to proceed with "be the lead," as it sounds more gender-neutral and includes all of their customers.
What's coming up next?
There's a lot of good stuff waiting in the pipeline, especially with respect to her production company, Simpson Street, Washington shares. She's about to direct a pilot episode for Hulu, which is an exciting project called Reasonable Doubt that she's been directing and producing herself. Also, there are a bunch of other series she's attached to as an actor and a few other featurettes.
All in all, it's going to be a busy year for the lovely lady. We wish her all the best in her forthcoming endeavors!
