Celebrities are no stranger to the public’s scrutinizing eye. The popularity of social media has given critics a new avenue to let stars know their negative opinions about them. Fortunately, ‘Hitch’ actress Eva Mendes is not one to engage and feed trolls further.
Classy Clapback

Instead of returning the same kind of negativity hurled at her, the star prefers to keep her cool and respond to them in the classiest way.
Proof of this is how she handled one commenter who posted about how she’s ‘getting old’ under a post on her public Instagram account.
The 45-year-old Mendes agreed with the commenter’s sentiment and even thanked them for reminding her that she’s still here. What more, the actress said that she’s grateful that she’s aging.
In an interview with People magazine during an event in Los Angeles following the online incident, Mendes revealed that she was actually ‘excited’ by the reaction as she didn’t think that the commenter had malicious intentions when they wrote the comment. She did acknowledge how a negative view of aging can be dangerous.
The ‘Ghost Rider’ actress also shared how she thinks it’s ‘archaic’ to refrain from asking a woman her age. She herself, who’s about to turn 46 soon, is proud of her age.
Taking Things as a Compliment

Another reason why she made sure to reply to the person who made the comment about her age is that she wanted to show others that it could be taken as a compliment.
She further shared how saying ‘I have 46 years to me’ in Spanish is beautiful. The actress then said how she doesn’t really feel 46 but feels empowered for having 46 year worth of experience.
Her classy rebuttal is reminiscent of other instances when she stood up against online haters.
Dealing with Online Critics

One notable incident is when an Instagram user criticized the ‘ugly patterns’ used in Mendes’ designs. A commenter even told the actress to find a better designer under a video where she was showing off a multi-colored dress (pictured above).
Mendes admirably kept her cool amidst the rather blunt comment on her work. She even went as far as to recommend the lines of her fellow celebrities Kate Hudson and Gabrielle Union to the disappointed commenter.
